New Prices for 2009

For 8 years MOPA Theatre Company have been at the forefront of Shakespeare education in Schools.  In October 2008, abrupt changes to the structure of KS3 SATs saw a 60% overnight reduction in the company's core business.  As a result of this, MOPA have undertaken a major review of their business model and - among other strategies - have accelerated their blossoming work with the NHS and other organisations, to broaden the company's product base.

The company is also currently in the process of applying to change its status to that of a charity - a move which will open the door to funding streams previously closed to us.  In addition, minor changes to our operating method were tested in this autumn's acclaimed tour of "Of Mice and Men" "Very impressive: by far the best company we have had in school" - Ian Williams, Snaith School, Yorkshire, November 2008), and one result of these various developments is that from January 2009 we will be offering a smaller programme of core sessions (see below for details), but will be making these core sessions available at just £795 + VAT for a full day.  We regret that there will no longer be a cheaper half day price available, but schools can, of course, book a single session at the £795 + VAT price.

Bookings for 2009 sessions which were made before 31st December 2008 will stand.  As of January 2009 the core sessions which are available at the new price are: Get Set for Shakespeare (for Years 7-9); GCSE Romeo and Juliet (Years 10-11); GCSE Macbeth (Years 10-11).  Please note that Get Set for Shakespeare can be tailored to give emphasis to any of the following texts: Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Tempest, Much Ado About Nothing.  You can mix and match any of these sessions - including the GCSE options - for the £795 + VAT price.

Details of our summer Shakespeare day programme will be posted here in due course.  We do not anticipate any change in structure or price for these days in 2009

October 2008 -
Children's Secretary Ed Balls has announced that national tests for 14 year old school pupils in England are to be scrapped, following this summer's Sats marking "shambles".

Here at MOPA Theatre Company, we recognise that although SATs tests have ended, there is still a huge amount of work we can and will continue to do to improve pupils’ awareness, understanding and enjoyment of English Literature.

Contrary to popular belief, we were never in the business of just answering SATs questions (although it is obviously something we did brilliantly!) NO! We are in the business of inspiring people with Shakespeare and we will be continuing to do this.  What's more, we will use our thorough knowledge and comprehension of Shakespeare to make wholesale changes to our 2009 sessions to guarantee they are absolutely relevant to whatever individual schools are doing for Shakespeare.

Due to our complete flexibility, we have the ability to make sessions relevant for any year group, bring different plays or different scenes to those originally prescribed to life, look at whole stories of whole plays and Shakespeare's Theatre in general, look at specific themes or characters in one play or across a range of plays, or simply provide an overview of why Shakespeare is brilliant and relevant today.

In every single session we will bring the core MOPA attributes:
Excellent understanding of the material
Fantastic student involvement and enjoyment throughout
Inspiration for students and teachers alike

You can even use our visit to prepare the ground for GCSE work next year and beyond.  It's a chance to spread the cost of our visit across a wider spectrum: use it to improve appreciation of Shakespeare at KS3 and at the same time directly to prepare the ground for GCSE and beyond.

Call us today to discuss your changing needs and see how well we are placed to fulfil them:
